Elderly Residents Enjoy Afternoon Tea

Newry, Mourne and Down District Council Chairperson Councillor Michael Savage welcomed members of the Friendship Club, Warrenpoint to the Council Chamber in Monaghan Row on Tuesday 22 November for an Afternoon Tea event. Guests were entertained by local musician Gabriel Bradley who played and sang a medley of songs.

Newry, Mourne and Down District Council Chairperson, Councillor Michael Savage said, “The Council are proud to recognise, highlight, celebrate and promote the many positive aspects of growing old and the very valuable contribution that the over 50s continue to make within our community. As an Age Friendly district, we realise that events like today are so important as they provide our older residents with an opportunity to dress up, to come out of the house and catch up with familiar faces and make new acquaintances too.”

The Friendship Club, Warrenpoint was formed in 1980 and in 1989 Anna O’Hagan and the late Bridie Rooney took over the management of the club. Members meet weekly and organise social events and get togethers. It is opened to all denominations and a friendly welcome to new faces is guaranteed.

The Chairperson presented Anna O Hagan with an inscribed crystal bowl on behalf of Newry, Mourne and Down District Council to acknowledge the high level of support that the Warrenpoint Friendship Club offers residents within the community.
